“Yes WE Can” Afterschool/Summer Intervention and Prevention Program
Our “Yes WE Can” Afterschool/Summer Intervention and Prevention Program is a free program for youth ages 6-18 years old. During our afterschool program, youth may ride the bus from WISD to our center and receive help with homework and educational activities. Following our educational time, we provide a healthy homecooked meal to each member daily. For the remainder of the afternoon, we have recreational activities and fun programs. Our programs focus on education, healthy lifestyles and relationships, character and leadership development, mental health awareness, developing social skills, and building self-esteem.
JUST DO IT NOW Youth Football League and Cheerleaders is a tackle football league and cheerleading program for youth ages 5-12 (not entering 7th grade). We have 3 different age group teams that play in games in both Wharton and travel out of town to play in. We focus on teaching fundamentals of football and cheer as well as teamwork, discipline, respect, building self-esteem and commitment. Many of the youth who have come from Wharton to go on and play at the college level and even the pros, has at some point in their youth participated in the youth football league. For many years, a lot of the WJH and WHS cheerleaders got their start in our youth cheerleading program. The JDINYFL Program believes by strengthening our your, building character, promoting integrity, and producing champions on and off the field, we strengthen our future.
Our Wharton Tigers Basketball teams are competitive teams who participate in tournaments across the state of Texas! Currently we have teen Level Boys Basketball Team and working on a 7th Grade Boys Basketball team and 7th Grade Girls Basketball team. This program focuses on the fundamentals of basketball as well as teamwork, discipline, respect, building self-esteem and commitment. This program has been going on for around 10 years now and has been effective with developing teams that have been strong contenders on the High School level, where WISD boys basketball teams have been in the playoffs numerous years, often reaching the High School Regional Playoffs. In 2017 the WHS Girls Basketball team made it to the Texas State Semi-finals. The majority of this team participated for 5 years on our Girls Select Basketball Team.
Wharton County Wave Track program is an AAU Track Certified program for youth (male and female) ages 6 to 18 years old. We offer track and field events for individuals and for relay competitions. The majority of our track meets are held in the Greater Houston area. Track season typically begins in April and runs through June. The fee to participate in track is $60 per person and includes AAU registration and usage of uniform. All members will pay the track participation entry fee when attending a meet. Each meet has its own participation fee (typically $10-$15 per participant). Running in a track program is a great way to stay healthy and fit and is encouraged for all athletes to help build stamina, strength and conditioning. For many years, we have had numerous youth compete, qualify and participate at the Jr National’s Olympics! We encourage all youth, whether they are looking for something competitive, trying to stay in shape for another sport, or just looking for something fun, to come out and participate

At Just Do It Now, we truly enjoy taking our youth on field trips! This is a great way for our youth to engage in fun, educational and life enhancing experiences they may not otherwise be able to enjoy. Attending a field trip also gives our members and opportunity to bond with our staff (who are also mentors for our youth) since our staff to member ratio is typically 1:4 to help ensure the safety of our members. Some of our past field trips have been in attendance to Houston Astros games, City of Wharton Swimming Pool, El Campo Aquatic Center, Movie Theatres, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Field trips to colleges for tours and sporting events, Houston Zoo, Houston’s Herman Park, Houston Museums, field trips to WISD sporting events, Johnson Space Center, Fiesta Texas and so much more!
